The popular Opened Earth series features wheel-thrown pottery and hand built ceramics that have been heated, stretched and altered to show the inner beauty, texture and earthiness of clay. Stoneware and porcelain are used in combination with surface treatments including sand, terra sigillata, glazes, oxides and multiple firing methods.

Opened Earth is a culmination of experiences and influences from a 2004 artist residency in Taiwan. My intention is to characterize, share and celebrate the tactile range and splendor of clay. Opened Earth pieces have been exhibited nationally and have appeared in Ceramics Monthly, Pottery Making Illustrated (cover), Clay Times and Ceramic Art (Taiwan), as well as in several books on ceramic art.
